Toronto Islands & Baseball

Hello everyone x
While my boyfriend was away on his nearly month-long trip to Las Vegas, I was trying to come up with fun dates we could go on when he came back and I came across the idea of spending a day at the Toronto Islands. Originally I had planned that we would rent bikes and spend the day riding and relaxing on the beach but as always our day turned out quite different. We hopped on the go train to Toronto quite early and got some yummy breakfast. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture but we tried a place called Soup It Up and had an amazing clam chowder soup and roasted turkey sandwich.
After our breakfast we jumped on a ferry that delivered us at Centre Island. The view from the back of the boat pulling away from the harbour is absolutely amazing. I still get butterflies in my stomach that I get to call this my city.

We got off the ferry at Centre Island which has a little amusement park called Centreville that's very cute and old-timey.

Among Centre Island is a petting zoo which I just had too much fun with. I'm obsessed with animals. Can you blame me?

As you can see I was quite upset that I'm too tall to ride the ponies :'(

After Centreville we headed down to the beach and tried to fly a kite... we ultimately failed but it made for some laughs.

I bought this kite from Target for $2.99! I saw the minions and it was just meant to be <3 I'm obsessed.

The island is absolutely beautiful, I didn't even know something like this existed in the downtown Toronto area!

Along the bottom of the island there is a boardwalk/bike path so we took to that and found tons and tons of sailboats out on the water.

After our long adventure on the island we headed back to the mainland and stopped by St Louis Wings (which we always do in Toronto because the location on King Street has the most amazing wings EVER) and I snapped a picture of Ian that I'm absolutely chuffed with and have since made it my laptop background :)

After arriving home we had to quickly run back out to Ian's baseball game, I snapped some quick pictures as the sun was setting.

It was a lovely day and I hope you've enjoyed my pictures nearly as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Message In A Bottle DIY | My Valentine's Gift To Him

This year I didn't have a lot of money to spend on a Valentine's gift (where my broke college students at?) so I did a little DIY. I'd come across this idea a while ago and sort of kept it in the back of my mind. When I went to Michael's craft store for ideas for a Valentine's DIY I came across this cute little bottle with a cork and knew immediately what I was going to do.

I think it turned out really cute, it would have been cuter if I hadn't written so damn much (I'm a sucker for hand written notes and sort of got carried away) and had tried to fit the note in the bottle better, but I still think the hanging cork adds a nice touch. If I had thought more about how easy it would be to get the note out when buying the bottle, I probably would have opted for a different glass bottle from the selection Michael's had. Overall I think this was a cute DIY, could have been better executed, but now I'll know for next time I try something like this.

The message inside is a little love note, 10 Things I Love About You, handwritten by moi (my messy kindergarten looking writing). Other things I would have put in there would be poems, song lyrics, pictures of the two of you, anything sentimental or meaningful. I think this would be a great idea for long distance couples, instead of just an email or text, mail them a message in a bottle (there's the hopeless romantic in me coming out) I know that's something I'd love to randomly receive.

I hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Days!

My Valentine's Weekend ♥

So this Valentine's Day I was celebrating with my boyfriend, Ian, of nearly 9 months. We decided to go to the place we first met (nearly 2 years ago!) for dinner and dessert. I wish I had gotten a picture of our main course because it was DELICIOUS! But here's a picture of us at dinner instead.

I used to look at couples who sat on the same side of the booth and think "Wow really? You can't even sit on opposite sides of the table for one meal?" I'm totally in one of those couples now. In our defence we were sharing a meal... we ate at Boston Pizza and ordered the Pulled Pork Penne (which was just as good, if not better, than it sounds) and for dessert we got the Chocolate Explosion which was a slice of cold chocolate mousse cake with a chocolate crust and chunks of cheesecake inside. It was to die for.

Ian surprised me with some cute little treats and a GIANT teddy bear and a huge jar of olives (I'm addicted to olives).

I'll be making another post on what I gave him for Valentine's Day. It was an inexpensive little DIY (y'know, Valentine's gift on a college student's budget) but I think it was creative and thoughtful and romantic.

As you can see in the title, this Valentine's Day celebration didn't just end there. On Saturday we packed our weekend bags and went down to Niagara Falls (he wanted to play some poker, I wanted ihop, we both won). I wish I had taken more photos down there, but it was an amazing weekend. The first night we just settled into our hotel and went out for dinner at Outback Steakhouse (the chicken is in the shape of a heart so I just had to get a picture).

(Funny story -  I asked my boyfriend to send me the picture I took of our food
from his phone, only after he mentioned it did I realize that this wasn't our meal
it was a picture he had taken another time he was at Outback, we'd had fries with
our meal and he had deleted the picture. The little arse.)

Ian loves Outback Steakhouse and he's been talking about it for the past 9 months we've been together so it was nice to finally get to one and have a meal there.

Sunday was a big casino day for us. First we walked to IHOP which, on an empty stomach quite early in the morning with wind blowing at 5000 mph, felt like death, we got the regular buttermilk pancakes with bacon which were soooo good and soooo filling. We visited both Casino Niagara and the Fallsview Casino. Ian registered for a poker tournament and while we were waiting for that to start we played a little Blackjack (well, Ian played and I "advised", he did really good) and then walked around the touristy shops in the resort. We picked up some fudge, I've never had fudge from a fancy place like this before. Ian got Oreo fudge, I got Canadian Maple fudge, and we got Peanut Butter Chocolate to split.

For dinner that night I forced him to go to Rainforest Cafe. He just doesn't appreciate the animatronic elephants and meteor showers every 20 minutes the way I do. He was surprised when we both really enjoyed the Pita Quesadilla that we split (I wish I had taken a picture, it looked just as good as it tasted) and after that we headed back to Casino Niagara to play some more Blackjack. We didn't do so good the second time around and there was a guy at the table we stayed at most of the night, keep in mind this is a 15$ per hand table, who threw away easily over $3000 just in that sitting. I felt bad for the dealer, we could tell it was making her uncomfortable to have to take his hundred dollar bills every few minutes and give him more chips. Meanwhile I was thinking about all of the clothes I could buy with that $3000... At the end of the night we just went back to the hotel and and watched Olympic Curling. We're both really into watching Curling (it helps that the Canadian team is badass and haven't lost a match yet. Go Canada!)

I hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day Celebrations and spent it with your loved one (whether that be your significant other, your best friend, your pet, or Netflix) I definitely enjoyed mine!

I recently made a little Valentine's Day Fonts post that has a bunch of free font download links, you can check that out here if you'd like!

A Step In The Right Direction

Back in high school I was a big advocate of cruelty-free products, towards the end of high school and starting college I began to stray from that. I was broke, I was stressed, and I was breaking out like crazy. So I turned to cheap drugstore products that I knew would work for my skin, most of which were NOT made by cruelty-free companies.
Yes, those products work amazingly for my skin however by the time school comes around next year I’d like to have a pretty set system of cruelty-free products.
So I hope you’ll join me on my journey to finding the best and most affordable, cruelty-free products on the market.
If you have any suggestions of products or brands, please leave them in a comment below!

Favorite Movies of 2013!

Hey guys! I decided to do a whole 'Favorites of 2013' series of posts, starting with my favorite movies! I also included my least favorite movies of 2013 and some from 2012 that deserved honorable mentions. I'll also be giving a rating out of 10 on each movie.

Let's start with my favorite:

The Kings of Summer - such an AMAZING movie, so unique. One of those movies where you walk out of the theatre feeling satisfied and you just want to tell everyone to watch it. Very relatable for teenagers, Nick Robinson (who is also in ABC Family's Melissa and Joey, one of my favorite shows) is absolutely adorable and you can't help but feel for his character. I highly highly recommend, 9/10 stars.

Fast and Furious 6 - I've had a crush on Paul Walker for as long as I can remember, his passing was very hard on me, but getting to the movie, behind Fast 2 & 5, number 6 is my 3rd favorite of the series (3 doesn't even deserve a mention, 2 huge thumbs down). Not much to say about this movie, they brought Letty back and got into some crazy shit, 8/10.

The English Teacher - absolutely adored this movie. The fact that two of my favorite actors, Lily Collins and Michael Angarano, just made it that much better. Really cute storyline, funny and relateable, I'm terrible at reviewing movies sorry o.o, 7/10

Frozen - adorable, songs are so catchy, feel good movie. Good movie for literally every age group, my boyfriend's friends even loved it. 7/10

Jackass: Bad Grandpa & This is the End -  two very different movies, both absolutely hilarious. Full of crude humor, sometimes over the top. Definitely recommend seeing these, you will not stop laughing. 7/10 for both.

Star Trek Into Darkness & Iron Man 3 - figured I'd put these together because they're sort of in the same category in my brain. Both series are AMAZING, very sad the 3rd is the final Iron Man movie, and Chris Pine is sexy as hell. 7/10 for both.

Honorable mention: Delivery Man - One of the only Vince Vaughan movies I've enjoyed in a very long time, doesn't follow the typical Vince Vaughan movie storyline. I was hesitant about seeing this but I'm glad I did, definitely a feel good, pick me up kind of movie. 6/10.

Movies that didn't come out in 2013 but that I thought deserved an honourable mention:

Stuck In Love - favorite movie OF ALL TIME. I cannot say enough good things about this movie, Lily Collins is brilliant, Nat Wolff is brilliant, Greg Kinnear is brilliant, Logan Lerman is brilliant, Jennifer Conelly is brilliant, Liana Liberato is brilliant. A++++++++ cast. Movie is written amazingly, definitely a very artsy fartsy movie. Lily Collins' monologue in the beginning of the movie is one of my favorite of all time, I even have it memorized. 10/10. (Actually like 100000000/10)

Spring Breakers - I've heard so many mixed reviews on this movie, you definitely have to look at it more like a piece of art than as a sit down and enjoy movie that you feel good about. I didn't have high expectations for this movie so my mind was absolutely blown. 8/10

Least favorite movies of 2013:

Man Of Steel - was so let down by this movie, did not enjoy my viewing experience at all, I spent most of the time sitting there thinking "Really? Is this a joke? It gets better right?" It didn't get better. It got worse. Much worse. Hard to follow and just generally bad. But hey, my friend seemed to enjoy, though it was the first superhero movie she had ever seen. 3/10 (added 2 stars because Henry Cavill is a hottie)

Now You See Me - A+ cast, F movie. Had high expectations for this, disappointing that such an amazing cast made such a shitty movie. But then again, Sam enjoyed it so maybe there's something there I didn't see. Hard to follow, generally boring. Some cool special effects. Basically just a stupid movie. 2/10.

The Internship - another movie I had high expectations for, mainly because Dylan O'Brien is fantastic. Opened my eyes up to how AWESOME Google headquarters is. That was probably the main pull to get people to see the movie, only good part was when they were in the strip club. The rest was crap. Typical Vince Vaughan movie. 4/10 (added a star because Dylan O'Brien, nuff said)

Syrup - don't waste your time on this movie, very long and very bad. Don't even want to talk about it. Amber Heard is hot, that's all. 0/10

The Mortal Instruments - SO DISAPPOINTED IN YOU LILY, movie was terrible, the whole story line of the characters falling in love was ridiculously stupid. Couldn't even finish the movie. 1/10.

Do you agree/disagree with my ratings? What were your favorite and least favorite movies of 2013? What would you recommend I check out? Please leave a comment below I love reading them!

Review: Mophie Juice Pack Air

Hey guys, so I recently got a Mophie Juice Pack Air from my amazing boyfriend for Christmas. If you don't know the Mophie brand, they make phone cases and little portable battery backs to charge your phone.

image from mophie.com
This is the case I was given, the Mophie Juice Pack Air Product Red Edition. I'm so happy with the way the case looks, it looks great on my black iPhone. The case is a lot more lightweight than I was expecting, it doesn't feel much heavier than the rubber case I had on my phone prior. The charge is amazing, my phone battery has been acting up lately. The product advertises that it will give you up to 100% charge but I usually get about 100-140% charge which is way more than I was expecting.

Until you turn the battery pack on, it just acts as a case. When you flick the switch on the back of the pack it acts as if you had your phone plugged into the wall to charge. I usually turn mine on when my battery is around 20% I'll let it give a full charge and then turn it off and usually have about 30-60% of juice left on the case to use later. I haven't had any problems or malfunctions with the product yet and I'm SO happy with it! It's super convenient and definitely a lifesaver when I have to spend a lot of time out of the house like going to a concert or spending all day at school. The price of this case is $99.95 but is so worth it in the long run. I can't thank my boyfriend enough and can't say enough good things about this product and the brand.
When my boyfriend picked up my case he also got a Mophie Powerstation so I might do a review on that later, it seems just as convenient as the case, especially for guys who have larger pockets.
Thanks for reading, if you have a Mophie let me know about your experience with it.

New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone! I can't believe it's 2014 already, I feel like I was just making my 2013 New Years resolutions yesterday...
There are a bunch of things I want to improve about myself this year and I figured, you know, writing it down and putting it out into the public might be a good way to motivate myself to actually work on this stuff and not slack off, so here goes...

1. Focus on my Youtube channel and post videos regularly: I know this is going to be a hard one for me because this was one of my resolutions last year and it never happened. I really really want to start doing this though, it's totally out of my comfort zone and I know it's a lot of work but I have so many ideas and I'm slowly working my way forward to my first youtube video. Small steps.
(btw if you want to subscribe to my currently video-less youtube channel you can click HERE and I promise I'll be uploading videos very very soon)

2. Blog more: This is an easier one for me since I'm wasting my time on the internet every single day anyways, I may as well put it to good use.

3. Knit more: And crochet, and sew, and just craft in general more. I love crafting and (not trying to brag) I'm good at it too, and nothing is more rewarding than finishing something particularly challenging and having something to prove it, or giving someone a really thoughtful gift that you put time into and are proud of. And with more crafting, comes more DIY posts and videos.

4. Paint my nails more often: I know this one is kind of random, but I'm so horrible at painting my nails regularly and I really do love having my nails painted (and I also really need to get better at it).

5. Hang out with my classmates more: another random one, but I'm notorious for being by myself, and I swear I'm not a loner, I'm just perfectly comfortable by myself. This particularly applies to when I'm away at school and during breaks between classes and before and after classes, I'm so comfortable just going back to my dorm room or getting lunch by myself. I'm a very independent person but I really do enjoy being around others and sometimes I forget that, I need to push myself to go off with the group more often instead of saying goodbye and going home to watch youtube videos or nap.

So that's it, I'm always thinking of new things I want to do and improve about myself but these are the ones at the top of my list. What are your New Years Resolutions?

All-Time Favorite Mascara

Ever since I started wearing makeup I've had a hard time with finding the right mascara. At first I didn't think it was that important, I was buying $3 mascaras that just did nothing good for my lashes. Eventually I figured it out and now mascara is the most important part of my makeup routine. My eyelashes can be difficult to work with, they're really straight and hard to curl and not only that but they're hard to keep a curl in. When choosing mascaras I have to choose ones that are waterproof or seriously heavy duty. This mascara is not called "waterproof" but when tested against water it acts exactly as a waterproof mascara does, which I understand that most people absolutely hate as they're a pain in the ass to wash off and can feel heavier than normal mascaras. I promise this is worth it if you have lashes like mine. The problem I've always had is that I would curl my lashes and then as I'm applying mascara they would just fall and lose the curl and by the time I was done applying or within a couple minutes later I would have flat lashes again, I went through this with every single mascara I tried before this one.

Behold, the Covergirl LASHBLAST 24HR Mascara.

Not the most interesting package design in the world but that's not important. What's amazing is the formula. This stuff will stay on your eyes all day and all night, it will not smudge and it will not clump and if you go in the water it will either stay on or crumble off, no smudging. I've worn this mascara to sleep more than a couple times (I know I know, I'm a sinner, but when you're sleeping in your classmate's basement after a party sometimes you just gotta fall asleep with your makeup on) and it will stay on all night and still look perfect in the morning... even if the rest of your makeup doesn't.

The wand has little plastic bristles and I know this is another deal breaker for some people (I've heard excuses such as "they poke my eyeball and it feels weird"...) but it's a great brush for really volumizing your lashes and brushing the clumps out. I've gone through so many of these mascaras that I still have 4 in my makeup bag I haven't gotten around to throwing out yet, it's been my favorite for over 3 years.
So if you're looking to try out a new mascara or seem to have any of the same problems I do I highly highly highly recommend trying out this mascara.
